Road Trip - Day 17 & 18 - Sapphire, NC

From Asheville we were headed to Sapphire, NC - which is a mountain vacation spot for Southerners, at least that is what I am calling it. Fun fact, Dirty Dancing was also filmed there!

I was particularly excited about this portion of the trip as we were meeting up with one of my college friends Melissa, her husband George and the cutest boxer out there, Ryman. Bonus was that Glynn, Melissa’s childhood friend, was also there – she and Meliss have been a on a little road trip of their own.

On the way we stopped at Dupont State Forrest for a quick hike. The Hunger Games were filled at the park – 3 falls is where Peta was resting after he was injured. There was also an awesome dog that was going right into the falls...his owner would throw his flip flop, which Chris was hoping would get lost. We later saw the dude walking out with one show, ha!

The rocks where Katnis was running near the river - NERD ALERT!
High falls, some brave souls were sliding down, had to hurt the arse!
We stayed at the beautiful Sapphire house that I have seen pictures of for a few years now and always wanted to visit. Sapphire did not disappoint, it is so peaceful and beautiful! We also got to go fishing a few times, I was determined to catch a fish and I caught 2 and then snapped the line with a big trout on the hook. I hope the trout has shed the lure by now!

The damn at Sapphire

The beautiful garden and scene of the skunking, poor Ryman!
The Fonty Family de-skunking Ryman, kind of, that face is too cute!

We also played the best drinking game courtesy of Glynn, which I will be bringing to Australia. I think it was dubbed “the yelling game.” Basically each person claims a category – like things that are round, airport codes – the dealer then flips a card in front of each person continuously until there is a match. At that stage, the players with the match says, usually shouts, an item of the other players category – baseball, ORD. We hope the festive playing cards we left behind are enjoyed for years to come :)

We missed you Katie K! Thanks again Melissa and George for hosting us at Sapphire!
